Silk farming is credited to Chinese empress Leizu who, according to legend, discovered silkworms while having afternoon tea and was enchanted by the slowly unraveling cocoon that fell into her drink. Today, China is the global leader in silk manufacturing, producing more than 50% of the world’s silk using techniques that were perfected in secret thousands of years ago.
